Problem:
I would like add "ProfileDisk" VHD to my current ProfileUnity setup.
Symptoms:
The VHD ProfileDisk will store entire user profile
Possible Resolution(s):
This configuration of ProfileDisk is when ProfileUnity is in use and it has its own configuration already deployed and in use.
This is usually used if there is current ProfileUnity environment and user would just like to add Profile Disk to the current setup. These steps assume that you have default configuration in netlogon\profileunity directory.
Step 1) Go to "Administration" Section of your ProfileUnity Console:
Step 2) Go to "ProfileDisk" Section of the configuration
Step 3) Fill out VHD ProfileDisk details:
- Set size of the VHD(x).
Note: Once the VHD is created this size can not be changed without first deleting the VHD and starting over from beginning or using 3rd party tool to extend the VHD.
- Enable Compression
- Disk Type: Fixed (Thick) or Expandable (Thin)
Select "Update"
Note: Recommended is to use Security Group in "Active Directory Groups" field and test with just a few users before rolling out to entire organization to make sure there are no unexpected issues. This way it can be rolled out safely and gradually with minimal impact.
Note: New versions will have "VHDx" vs older version (VHD)
Step 4) Deploy or Download Configuration
Step 5) Save nodes.xml (ClientSettings.xml - Version 6.8+) to:\\domain.com\netlogon\ProfileUnity
Step 6) Important step: Please reinstall the ProfileUnity client or refresh your pool!! (Run LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Startup.exe with the correct ClientSettings.xml present in the same directory) on the master image of your pools before recomposing your pools.
The above ProfileDisk setting need to be implemented early before the login; therefore, they require a recompose/Refresh of the VMs so the "LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Startup.exe" will run as windows startup script.
There is no need to do anything with current Portability Settings as they will be restored to ProfileDisk by default during first logon.
