Problem:
Deleting or moving folders from a non-redirected desktop causes a UAC popup when ProfileDisk is used
Symptoms:
In the explorer you can can not delete the folder via for example:
c:\users\tesuser\desktop\folder.
It is possible to delete a shortcut or some other file but the folders show a UAC popup.
The issue is with moving files FROM a folder within the ProfileDisk, so the core issue isn't deleting, its moving to the recycle bin. You can instead SHIFT+DEL folders to bypass the move to the recycle bin to workaround the issue.
Possible Resolution(s):
Several points to note redirecting the folders in this case.
1. By default in ProfileUnity templates the My Documents and the Desktop folders are redirected, to prevent the problem. If folder redirection is not defined in the configuration, the user folders are automatically captured via ProfileDisk. Therefore, a workaround to this problem is to redirect Desktop and Documents folders (using the ProfileUnity Folder redirection module).
2. It is also a good idea to redirect these folders in that you can restore single files and not have to restore the entire VHD to recover user files.
3. We recommend Portability to be enabled and that serves as a backup, with the VHD serving as a cache that can be deleted if it ever becomes corrupt.
To redirect the folders follow the below steps.
1. Enable Portability in your configuration. Open Portability Settings and enable the portability setting if they are disabled. If you are not sure what to do here, please contact support.
2. Create a folder redirection rule for both the Desktop and My Documents folders.
The below image shows the check-boxes and selections that you have to make.
Please sue your own folder redirection location and make sure to use a %username% in the path.
NOTE: This issue is going to be fixed in future releases of ProfileUnity.
