Description:
How to manage MS store apps with the MSIX Module.
Resolution:
You can use the MSIX module in ProfileUnity to register MS Store apps to machines and use the filtering technology in ProfileUnity to control access.
*MSIX module does not support FlexApp's Session Isolation technology which means that every user on a machine will see these applications and be able to use them. The applications remain on the system even after the last assigned user logs off.
In this example we'll user PowerBI for the workflow.
1. Open the MS store and look for PowerBI
Choose More Options at the bottom
Then "copy link"
https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9NTXR16HNW1T?ocid=pdpshare
Now that you have the link from Microsoft you need to download the Appx file for the application as well as any dependencies. This website, below, might help gather the appx file download links. Download the application appx that matches your target architecture and make sure the dependencies also match the application's architecture.
Paste in the link from the MS store.
The example below shows the Appx as well as any dependencies the app requires.
You want to download the corresponding appx packages to a network share accessible by the client machines.
Adding the Rules in ProfileUnity
Open the config in question and navigate to the MSIX module.
Add the rule as follows (example for PowerBI
Troubleshooting:
It's possible the image or desktop your using already has these dependencies or only needs some. In addition the ProfileUnity logs (See:https://www.liquidware.com/support/articles/210632023-Where-To-Find-ProfileUnity-Logs) in debug mode should generate a log for the MSIX module and might help decipher what ones are missing or you can test adding all listed from URL generator (https://store.rg-adguard.net/)
This example below, shows a missing dependency on the system and missing from the ProfileUnity UI (paused for example)
