Problem:
Physical machines and some VMs show up under the UNKNOWN datastore.
Symptoms:
N/A
Possible Resolution(s):
Physical machines will always show up under the UNKNOWN datastore as they don't have a true datastore like a virtual machine does. Looking at I/O and other metrics at the UNKNOWN datastore level can be confusing as it could be a total of I/O from all physical machine CIDs reporting to that HUB so it's best to look at those metrics at the machine level instead.
VMs that show up under the UNKNOWN datastore entry can be cause by the VMs having recently been deleted, orphaned or the VMs not having any disks attached to them. We recommend spot-checking a few of the VMs under the UNKNOWN datastore entry to confirm they're not in a normal operating condition which would explain the UNKNOWN datastore showing for them.
