How to disable VHD driver installed during PU client install.

Problem:

VHD Driver is installing during startup.

Symptoms:

LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Startup.exe is used to install ProfileUnity client

Client 6.8+ or later is installed

Resolution:

 

Edit "LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Update.exe.config" (Startup.exe.confg when Pre 6.8 client is used) located in "...netlogon\profileunity" directory there is a new option:

 

      <setting name="PreInstallVhdDriver" serializeAs="String">

        <value>True</value>

Setting the value to True will install the VHD driver during startup.

Setting the value to False will not install the VHD driver during startup.

(Default setting is True)

The client tools will need to be re-installed on the base image:

  1. Uninstall ProfileUnity client: Run in elevated CMD: lwl.profileunity.client.startup.exe /uninstall
  2. Reinstall ProfileUnity client: Run in elevated CMD: lwl.profileunity.client.startup.exe

 

Important Note: That if disabled on startup and the driver is not already installed in the base, and if the configuration is:

a) Mounting VHD disk

c) Mounting ProfileDisk VHD

b) Mounting FlexApp UIA disk

c) Mounting VHD DIA disk

It WILL install on login rather than startup which will have noticeable effect on login/DIA deploy times.
