Problem:
Momentary Generic Icon For Click-To-Layer FlexApp package once logged on.
Effected:
Windows 8.x, 2012 and 2012 R2
Description:
When first loaded during playback, a FlexApp package configured as "Click-To-Layer" momentarily displays a white, generic app icon on Windows 8.x, 2012 and 2012 R2 as shown below:
Resolution:
This issue caused by a default policy change in Windows 8.x, 2012 and 2012R2. To resolve this issue, the following registry entry needs to be created on the machine you are attempting to playback on:
(Key) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
(Value) EnableShellShortcutIconRemotePath
(Data) REG_DWORD 1
Once created, reboot the machine and the correct default icon will now appear on playback.
Due to the setting only taking effect after reboot, it is recommended to set the value in the parent VM image.
If this issue occurs in a Remote Desktop Services environment, it is more than likely due to other User’s logging on to the same RDS Host or are playing back a FlexApp configured for "Click-to-Layer". In both scenarios, the icon is only momentarily displayed automatically corrected.
*Note: Allowing the use of remote paths in file shortcut icons can expose users’ computers to security risks
