Problem:
After desktop refresh or after local profile was deleted from RDSH server the icons on task bar are grayed out, the links are possibly broken.
Symptoms:
Possible Resolution(s):
There are two parts of configuration that need to persist for the task bar icons and shortcuts to work properly.
1) Registry.
- Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage
- Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage2
- Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband
This Registry location is saved and restored by "Windows Explorer - 5.6" Ruleset.
Verify that you have turned on portability and this "Windows Explorer 5.6" (Older name - "Windows Explorer") is included in your Portability Rules.
2) Shortcut Location.
- Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
This location usually is redirected or made portable using our Portability rules.
If folder redirection is used verify that "Copy to New Location" is used with "Application Data" and "Local Application Data"
#1 and #2 must be in place setup correctly for the Task Bar to show items correctly.
3) Profile Disk.
If "ProfileDisk" (VHD or VMDK)is in use those task bar shortcuts should stay persistent between each logon session, this is another alternative solution.
Note: If the two locations (Shortcut location and registry) where TaskBar is saved get out of sync it might be necessary to clear the data by deleting local profile or portability files which are storing the information.
